2-Tank Installation Instructions
a) backwash drain line (1/2-inch plastic tubing) for backwashing the Hercules Filter (1st tank); b) connections to & from system; c) a recommended system bypass; and d) in order to flush the Purification Filter (2nd tank), a garden hose will be needed at the spigot provided. If city coding requires copper piping, use diagram & parts provided as a pattern to duplicate. 1. Unpack. 2. Remove the black cap from the smaller of the two tanks (The Hercules) - the one without the "in" & "out" holes. 3. Remove the control valve from the box and make sure the large black O-ring is seated in its place on the base just above the threads. Hold it over the top of the tank and align it with the opening. Center the riser tube to the valve and carefully slide it on. You may need to push down hard to get the tube to slide all the way in. There is an O-ring in the valve. Once it is in, carefully start turning the valve counter-clockwise to thread it down tight. Make sure there is no grit in threads to ensure proper seal. Do not cross thread or over tighten. 4. Arrange the two big tanks the best way
that they will fit for the location. The
Hercules Filter with the control valve connects
to the water inlet on the left side facing the
front of the control. The control valve outlet
is on the right. The second tank (Purification
Filter) connects to it. 5. Plumb it in by cutting the cold water line
where you want to connect - the raw water side.
6. Next, a backwash drain line (1/2-inch plastic hose that you must supply) must be attached to the drain fitting on the back of the control valve and run into a drain. (More directions are in the control valve manual.) 7. Once ALL filters are plumbed in, you need to backwash the Hercules Filter and flush the Purification Filter. There is a lot of fine media dust in the filters that will flush out when the water is first turned back on. Before backwashing & flushing in the next step, take the filter cartridge out of small housing so it doesn’t plug up. First, close the ball valve after the small 10-inch cartridge filter housing. This is the filtered water going into the house. 8. On the Hercules Filter, set the control to
the backwash position (check the control valve
manual). Unplug the control. 9. Now the Purification Filter (2nd tank) is to be flushed. A spigot is provided for a hose; run hose to a drain until water is clear about 10 to 15 minutes. With the ball valve shut no filter dust or media can get into your pipes. Replace the 1-micron cartridge filter in the housing before opening the ball valve. Now nothing larger than one micron can get past this system. It is also wise to shut off other lines to washer, hot water heater, etc. to keep the dust out of those lines. Caution! You may need to turn off power to hot water heater until you are done. Hot water can expand. Low water can burn out electric heating elements if it is on and the water level is down. 10. Note: The water will have a lot of air
bubbles coming out for a few days. This is
harmless. 11. Set backwash pins as needed. All pins in = every night. Every other pin = alternate nights, etc. If you don't know how often to set it, email us telling your water conditions before installing the system, and we will be happy to suggest the right setting. (Check control valve manual). 12. Set clock time to current time. Do not worry about backwashing at night. It is automatically off set when set to current time. 13. Replace 1-micron filter cartridge (post
filter) every 6 to 12 months or as needed when
water flow slows.
